Walking Blindly: Look for the Unseen

European cities have plenty of old, old buildings and things. Some of these have been restored, some are in need of restoration, and some have no hope.

Even though I live in an old German city, I am constantly surprised by the things I see that I have not seen before even though I may have passed the thing a 100 times. I believe most of us just walk blindly through our every day life, and this includes me at times ...

So, when you go out to shoot, look up, look around, and seek out the unseen.

There is a ruin, which is built into the old fortress wall, I made a photograph of called Hidden. I asked those that live in Ulm where it is. Yes, they got it!. This ruin sits in the center of the city (Stadtmitte = city center/center of the city) close to the Danube. I am pretty sure most that live in Ulm have walked past it many times, but have never actually looked at it.

The ruin is here. Walk through the tunnel and you are in the Rosengarten at the Danube. It is next to the Meeting House - (Holy) Trinity Church. (English translation)

Vision Driven

I am a visual artist. I am vision driven.

I make photographs. I am a photographer.

I make paintings.  I am a painter.

I believe that one should:

           Look, See, Think
  • Look at what you See
  • See what you Look at
  • Think about what you See

What is seen isn't always as it appears - The Ordinary

In my previous post, I said that everybody sees what they see. Sometimes what I see at the moment, isn't really as it appears. The ordinary, the mundane isn't always what it appears to be.

Look, See, Think

"Hey, look at that," is something we often say when we see things that somehow stand out. I think that's the point where we start to think about the thing we are looking at. It could be for a split second, but that's  enough for some to ponder the thing. Shadow has that affect on me.

I'm always on the lookout for interesting light and shadow. Very often I don't have to go far. I don't even have to leave my apartment.

How to Improve your Photography

You want to improve your photography? Here's how you do it.

Get out and shoot. Shoot a lot! With a digital camera you have the luxury of limitless shots. Use that advantage.

Look at everything as a potential subject. See it. Visualize it! Compose it. Shoot multiple frames of it.
The key = Look, SEE, Think

Then choose the best shots, get them into your post-production software and make them even better. Remember, rarely does that ‘perfect’ shot come straight out your camera untouched.

As the adage goes, practice makes perfect.
